A Requiem Service or Hokehankisd is a short memorial service where we remember and pray for the souls of our loved ones.  While previously performed during the Night Hours, this service is now performed immediately following Divine Liturgy on Sunday mornings.  Although the Armenian Church’s prayers and hymns for the deceased are performed for all Apostolic Christians who have fallen asleep, it has become customary for the faithful to request that names of deceased loved ones be mentioned during the prayers.

Currently, Hokehankisds are offered every Sunday, with the exception of the five feasts:  Armenian Christmas, Easter, Transfiguration of the Lord, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Exaltation of the Holy Cross.  Requiem service requests should be submitted to the Church Office no later than Thursday at 12:00 noon for publication in the Sunday Church Bulletin for that week.  All requests received after that will be published in the Sunday Bulletin for the following week.  Anyone wishing to donate Altar Flowers for a particular occasion or in memory of a loved one should kindly contact the Church Office at (301) 229-8742 by Wednesday of that week.
